What’s the value of a womb if it becomes a coffin?
What’s the value of life if mine is negotiable?
They want us to believe
this is about life.
But how can it be
when we're statistically more likely
to die for it
than our own mothers ever were?

How do I trust a nation
that forces birth
but won’t guarantee breath?
That drafts laws to save the unborn
while letting the women die quietly
in recovery rooms
they never actually
recover from?
That always has money for war,
but never enough to learn
why mothers keep dying?

How do I explain the dread?
The hospital room I’ve already imagined,
the flatline I can picture
without ever stepping inside?
How I write my own eulogy
because “modern” doesn’t mean “safe”
when you’re a woman
in a country that worships potential
more than the person carrying it.

I've read the numbers
and the storm has grown teeth.
They tell me the mortality rate
has gone up in my lifetime.
They tell me it’s worse if I’m poor.
Worse if I’m Black.
Worse if I live in the South,
or in a state that gutted care
but kept its pride polished
and on display.

(Some darkly comedic prose for these trying times.
Because if I don’t laugh, I cry.
Hang in there, friends) 🖤

No.
The real crisis?
Whether two consenting adults
kiss in a way
that makes old men in pulpits
uncomfortable.

It’s wild how the Almighty
can create galaxies,
but draws the line
at butt stuff.

A quick note: the sample on Apple Books is still an older version with outdated formatting, but the correct info is live. Kindle’s info is updated too, though it’s still showing the old release date.
Physical copies will be available August 4.

If you read it—thank you.
If you share it—thank you.
If it resonates, even a little—I’m honored.

I wrote this for anyone who’s ever felt alone in their questions.

You’re not. 🤍
