okay rant over

Compared to other entities that push out slop and enshittified services while charging monthly for it in dollars or attention, I think donations to Wikipedia and the Internet Archive provide provide so much more value, and preserves the original vision for an open internet.

Ironically, this actually is proof of why projects like Wikipedia need to survive — to provide information from as neutral POV as possible. Especially in a world that is inundated with 'alternative facts'.

my bad with the wording; an excess solar [mix] wasn't the cause, but it exacerbated the frequency de-synchronization (or at least afaik, i might be wrong)

just wanted to use the iberian blackouts as an example of why we need to upgrade supporting infrastructure too alongside renewables

IIRC portugal recently had a blackout just because of this

But as the article said, it's hard to enforce reforms like China. There were plans to phase out older vehicles but it was scrapped after public pushback (FWIW those plans, IIRC, were considered baseless/ineffective).

Getting neighbouring states to co-operate just makes the problem harder.

In a streisand-effect-esque way, that has ironically made the issue more public. May also be why [it feels like] this year people are taking the issue more seriously.

human psychology is very interesting: retail traders somehow always think they can beat the market, despite knowing it's more unlikely than not

tbf, things are almost always more obvious in hindsight

and take everything with a grain of salt, i don't have an econ degree, nor do i know a lot about economics, politics, or history

these are nothing but rants from an average worker in the bottom 99%

almost as if deregulation and tax reforms that favoured capital over labour and environment would favour capital over people and environment
November 13, 2025 at 8:14 AM
not 'just' because of climate change, rising inequality, and increasing enshittification to the point of self-sabotage, but the incentives, from a long-term economics pov, also feel misaligned

personally, feels like the fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder value was probably not the most optimal long-term socioeconomic decisiom
