This is going to be such a great day for any theatre maker, researcher or postgraduate student wanting to chat about how and why we can persevere in our practice with all this (gestures at the world in general) going on.

I'm going spend the next 16 months writing up my PhD thesis on Mess & Scenographic Processes and I'd like to keep myself motivated and inspired by seeing as much messy theatre as possible.
Please send me your tips!
Spillages? Breakages? Loads of stuff? Trip hazards? Rubbish? Glitches? I love it all.
A photo of a messy stage production, lit blue, overlaid with large pink text that reads 'give me you messy theatre recommendations'.

A student did a speedy sketch of me today whilst I was teaching and I LOVE IT.
A sketch in blue pen on white paper of a figure, wearing jeans and short-sleeved shirt, looking animated.

Look at me looking all theatrical!

Us when ACE announces a limit of 2 (?!) Project Grant Applications a year

The reports about changes to Arts Council England‘s eligibility for Project Grants is going to rock the industry.

Should be made public in the next 2 weeks but crikey, it looks bleak for artists and independent organisations not in receipt of ACE regular funding.

Home with my 5yr old today, playing Lego.
Vincent told me to stop singing along to Meatloaf, so I was lip-syncing along instead.
He said "I can still hear you!"
I said "no you can't, I'm not making any noise!"
Vincent replied "I can hear you because you are singing so loud in your brain!"

In what must be a record, even for me, I am sat waiting for a train realising that I am wearing three items of corduroy clothing.
A close up of Eleanor's clothing showing a green corduroy jacket over a pink corduroy shirt over a black corduroy skirt.
The out of focus background shows the wooden parquet floor and grey metal bench of a train station waiting room.

Had to wake Vincent (my 5 year old) this morning to get ready for school.
He said "is it morning?" and I replied "yes".
He said "why did that happen so fast??" as he started crying.

Universal feeling.

Useful weekend crammed with parenting, design meetings and giving our bookcase a makeover.

dear theatre, the mess of it

Passed my second (and final) 'Annual Progression' today.

I am feeling chuffed and excited to crack on with my thesis writing.

Send messy theatre recs my way, I'd like some more case studies.

Cold but insanely beautiful bike ride to school this morning.

Feeling very lucky as I settle down to some cosy work time with a hot chocolate.
Two bikes, one black childs' bike and one blue adults' bike, lean against a wooden bridge. Frosty meadows and trees made golden by the morning light. A bird flies in the sky. Everything is white with frost and very pretty. Close up of a frosty, spidery, dried plant stalk. I'm afraid I don't know what plant...perhaps 'lord and ladies'?
Blurred frosty trees and sky behind. View across a brook to a frosty white meadow. The orange rising sun shines through winter tree branches.

Both my desks are filled with model-making stuff as I prep for a white card presentation on Monday.
So, here is my current standing laptop station:
(Keeping it far away from the super glue after yesterday's spillage)
Photo shows a vintage white cupboard with pale blue top in front of a wall covered in colourful pictures, prints and photos of chandeliers. It is a cluttered, busy space.
On the cupboard sits a picnic hamper with a laptop on top.
