When I clicked Natsu no Jin '08 entry #51 I did not expect a MariAri romance doujin in RPG Maker 2K form, but that's what I got (although it credits a Nico Nico Douga video for the scenario, so it might be an adaptation; too lazy to check)

The secret sauce is dedicated status characters, reasonable infliction rates even against bosses, and status-based DPS (poison, Dark Hunter's Ecstacy, Hexer's wacky fear skills)

perfectly good game but it's just not the same... the game 'wants' you to have a broken build and actively facilitates it rather than just being a normal jrpg where you can do silly things if you want

every one-time-purchase game not published by square enix is taken off the store 5-10 years after launch because it no longer makes enough money to justify compatibility updates; sucks that apparently not even bundling them all as a subscription can prevent this
