I think idpol is useful basically only to explain investment. E.g. “I and my family have experienced the ramifications of this, which is why I care,” rather than “because me and my family members have experienced the ramifications of this I intuitively understand it”

The incoherence on Western Sahara makes far less intuitive sense to me

Which is why projects like yours, which contextualize Israel-Palestine in the broader Mideast specifically are so important educationally
January 29, 2026 at 7:13 PM
Palestinians and Jews have an easier time putting it in perspective I think, because they understand that the stakes of the situation are simultaneously dire and that Israel is not directing a shadowy global conspiracy to burn down Patagonia

For the former a lot of it comes down to campism and a central focus on Israel as the wellspring of imperialism and the ultimate international evil (ultimate in the sense of being the source) both of which are simply untrue no matter how bad their conduct in the Mideast is
January 29, 2026 at 7:10 PM
Campism is often the advocacy of one imperialism over another. Not good!
January 29, 2026 at 7:09 PM
But a lot of this comes from my own disappointment in the campus movement’s failure to demand investments in accordance with international law as the practical result of their activism, as opposed to a purely Israel BDS (because the one is easier to sell to boards than the other)

I’ve always felt the more useful critique of the anti-imperialist movement is its insufficient support for Ukraine—where the USG is taking steps to back Russian imperialism now

I think it’s because TikTok has shut down political content so there is now reporting on other places
January 29, 2026 at 7:03 PM
Unsurprising if disappointing
January 29, 2026 at 7:02 PM
Which is secondary to your point but illustrative of that lack of understanding in Europe and the US

I always think of how the term Zionist in Jewish Israeli politics is most contrasted not to political “anti-Zionism” in the western sense but to Kahanism—it’s more centrist than anything else there

Will run for Senate, Klob has filed for Governor
January 22, 2026 at 7:09 PM
A lot of the beginnings of my journey on the subject derive from this wonderful collection of essays called "beyond occupation" from right after the first intifada, now ofc completely out of date but a really wonderful text consisting of essays from jews, palestinian christians, and P muslims
January 22, 2026 at 6:52 PM
I haven't, do you have a pdf?
January 22, 2026 at 6:50 PM
We can have all the discussions about whether zionism is bad that we want, with all the responses from people who say that it's compatible with a 2 state solution that we want, but anti-zionists and genuine liberal zionists should be advocating the same things now—and that's the 1-state reality
January 22, 2026 at 6:50 PM
Should say in the above: "uncomfortable" and "focused on" refer to rhetorical framings, not practical ones
January 22, 2026 at 6:48 PM
This is something I always think about in terms of political alliances—for Jews uncomfortable with "abolishing" Israel (as I am), and people resolutely focused on "abolishing" Israel, the discussions of what a day after looks like is unproductive when either day after requires the same policies now
January 22, 2026 at 6:47 PM
Please Europe destroy our bond market I need my countrymen to get the program of nations immoderation they voted for
January 22, 2026 at 5:55 PM
Can you find someone who remembers how to create the golem?
January 20, 2026 at 3:18 PM

January 19, 2026 at 3:28 AM
He was on the board of AIPAC iirc and the fact people are willing to forgive that shows the times we’re in
January 19, 2026 at 3:27 AM
Still not up to par on basketball
January 19, 2026 at 2:55 AM
This is also why milei is so into Israel, he’s a religious Zionist
January 17, 2026 at 9:47 PM
But he said he won’t convert until after his term because he can’t observe Shabbat as president
