American immigrant to Japan, now living in the Kumamoto hinterlands. I run Kurodahan Press, ran a commercial translation company here for decades, love dogs and almost everything else alive, and am now slowly decaying in my cave.
There are companies in Japan that will OCR books into various formats very quickly and cheaply. Used their services several times to prepare source files for novels.

Yeah, global replace doesn't work very well when your source is paper. Or better yet, faxed handwritten paper!

When translating articles with repeated companies, organizations, officers, products etc, I often found it easiest to just do a global replace on them in the source before translating, replacing each with something faster. Often the official English rendering.

Good that there's not some hernia etc hiding there, waiting the opportunity to ruin her life, but bad because the cause is still unclear.

JJ, our 10yo CKC spaniel, is developing spine issues now. We were told to walk and run freely, but avoid stairs, and especially down stairs. And jumping or standing on hind legs.
I assume the vet has X-rayed?

Spinal issues are common in dachshunds, but not mentioned much in poodle-flavored dogs. Then again, our two old CKC spaniels both lost use of their hind legs in old age and AFAIK neither of them had any dachshund genes...
Hope it's something you can fix! Happy dogs make happy people.

Very nice cover! Places it in time quite precisely.

蟹行文字 is so much better than 横文字. Heartily approve.

Not too thrilled with Tōkei, but fortunately I don't live there so don't have to fret.

It's still a great series, but the new art just doesn't do it for me... vastly prefer Pauline Baynes.

It'll give you something to do in your spare time

I prefer paper too, but you can't beat Merlin when it comes to identifying calls.

Most serial killers manage to brainwash their prey a lot earlier than four years, Dave. You're slipping

Many thanks. I may try that, as I still have all my publishing software. Printing might be a problem, though… I’ve only got an A3

Sweet! Love to have one on my wall

And Japanese only has five vowel phonemes, which is why the Japanese in general have such a tough time mastering English pronunciation.

When I was running Kurodahan I had to turn down several uni profs who had translated important works of JLIT. The translations were accurate; their English was so miserable it wasn't worth the cost of editing (rewriting?) the whole thing.

Nice!
Delighted to see proper kanji, but somewhat disappointed to see them using a circumflex instead of a macron in the title. Wonder when the macron actually came to Japanese romaji...

I don't think there's any particular reason. Just happenstance through some particular, irrelevant set of parameters.

The Chinese characters are being used as phonetics: there is no "correct" way to spell what results. Alan, Allen, Allan, Aran, Arann whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get a different vowel, too, considering how many pronunciations English squeezes out of only five letters.
