...as opposed to promising a Pixar dupe - which is what a vast majority of AI-generated animation looks like - while working with 0.0001% of a Pixar budget.

Also in animation I feel like a sizzle reel doubles as a proof of concept. Like... "here is my idea for a show, and here is proof that it can be made, based on which I have estimated the cost, so you know the funding I'm asking for is realistic"

If I ever pitch anything, any artwork/sizzle reel/etc will be made by myself or other creatives who, like me, believe in the idea we're pitching because we think it's good enough for us to put effort into making instead of burning a small patch of Amazonian rainforest because we couldn't be fucked.

This particular part is what's so wild to me. Like... how is anyone supposed to engage with art that wasn't even engaging enough for its own creator to want to make it??

it is so poisonous to react to "this is a hard part of the process" with "how do i skip this part of the process." just do something else if making art doesn't interest you damn

Sharing some of my thoughts from the other site but man I'm really pissed off about this shit.

I'm sure games is a similar situation.
In my time, AI was rolled out only in stuff like google workspaces and the like which was completely fucking useless, but a lot of company documents would say stuff like "this was edited using AI"... including their AI fair usage manifesto. Truly a joke.

Animation is so contract-based so they could just... wait it out until annoying people like me finished their contracts and then inevitably they would have a majority of people who like AI or are too exhausted to keep arguing with Harvard referencing and citations like they're defending a doctorate.

In the end they just said something along the lines of "if you have a problem with it we need exact sources and citations of why". Mind you they never showed us proof of why it IS good and useful. I sent dozens of articles and such but... my contract ran out so I never saw the response.

I worked at an animation studio that was pushing for AI use in ways that are similar to what it SOUNDS like Larian is doing and they kept rolling out surveys, creative staff kept pushing back, but their only response was to keep rewording their toothless, nothingburger of an "AI usage manifesto"
