I zoomed like a paparazzo to get this shot of a male green woodpecker digging for whatever he could find in a field in Kent early that November afternoon. Not ideal, but it was the best I could do. They are very hard to find/photograph as they hate people.

A photograph of a nuthatch hanging upside down on the trunk of an oak tree while it tries to hide a peanut that he or she has carried all the way from someone's garden feeder to the deep woods. Ultimately, the arrival of a squirrel forced the nuthatch to abort the operation.

There are not many birds in the garden during this mid-October in coastal Carolina for some reason, and those that are there do not sit still for two seconds for a picture. The irony that a HUMMINGBIRD has not only sat for minutes but has also posed is not lost on me.

This guy is so elusive - zoomed to the max and I can never get him in focus. The quest continues...

I am zoomed like a paparazzi - covered up and trying to be as stealth as possible, as one whiff of a human sends him packing. Why does he make it so hard?
