It’s March 1st and it’s snowing outside. Ugh. But we have tulips blooming wildly on the kitchen table and birds at the bird feeder so there is consolation. That’s what I feel like life is right now; going from small consolation to small consolation like jumping from rock to rock in a rising river.

Weird things I've learned while working on the book #3 million:

The poinsettia is named after Joel Poinsett, the Secretary of War who implemented the horror of the Trail of Tears. It's not the plant's fault, but I will never feel the same about them again.

We were so thrilled to give our talk at The Museum of the Cherokee People.

My husband, Kirk Savage, and I will be giving a talk at the Museum of the Cherokee People on Thursday, Jan. 9th, at 5:30. We'll discuss our new understanding of my gr. gr. grandfather, William Holland Thomas's place the history of the Eastern Band of Cherokees, & what that of his father, Yonaguska.
