My favorite was a bk owned by a friend of mine: a romance novel w/the hero holding the hand of the heroine & the heroine's left arm resting next to her....and then she had another hand (no, it wasn't a sci-fi novel). I think one hand was meant to be painted out...

You have to bear in mind that Heyer's mysteries were written w/ her husband (he devised the plots; she did the writing). So they are not the product of a single individual like her Regencies are.
