A few days ago I found this book on my shelves - clearly bought at a time to enlighten my understanding of my host nation. Because even after well over 20 years of living here, my mind continues to be boggled rather frequently. (1/2)

Good evening from my goofy, nosey, lovable looney girl. And me, of course!

Freue mich, meinen Lieblingscartoonisten @ralphruthe.bsky.social hier auf Bluesky gefunden zu haben.

I just finished the audiobook “Politics On The Edge”, entertainingly read by the author Rory Stewart.
Intelligence, a moral compass, humility plus a sense of humour are rare attributes amongst politicians.

It’s been absolutely freezing today…
Yesterday the wind wasn’t any warmer, but at least there was some blue sky!

I should have cancelled my Airbnb account ages ago, but the CEO joining Musk at DOGE was the final straw.
Will it make a difference? Perhaps. If enough people do the same.

(Getting away from Meta and Amazon is considerably more difficult.)

Yesterday afternoon we escaped the desk and the madness of the world for a few hours.
It didn’t rain (for a change).

I’ve started my first book of 2025, “The Moonlight Market” by @joannechocolat.bsky.social
and it is as beautifully written as I expected.

Somehow life got in the way of reading fiction in the past few years.
It’s definitely time to read more again.

The dogs and I got a lift up the hill today, and we then walked all the way home.
We started in mist, mizzle & freezing wind, ended with blue skies, sunshine & balmy temps.
Lots of trees & branches down in the woods behind the house. Top of the moor fared better.

Tonight’s Late Night Shopping in Porlock.
Lovely to see so many people, including our MP @rachelgilmourld.bsky.social .
And the food (hog roast and Bratwurst) was pretty yummy too.

If nonody has taken up this offer, I’d love Moonlight Market by @joannechocolat.bsky.social

On Friday I ran a workshop “Tunisian Crochet for Beginners” - it was a lot of fun. At times you could have heard a pin drop as everyone was concentrating really hard. Next Friday it’s “Christmas Crochet & Mince Pies”.
This made me think: Anyone fancy a crochet retreat?!?

Good to see the Old Ship Aground in Minehead so busy this evening (I took the photo before there was a mass invasion of prople in Christmas jumpers…).
And nice to be out with my son for a change.

I just came upon this delightful drawing on FB by the wonderful Lucy Claire whom I haven’t spotted yet here on 🦋
She has a book out, full of her illustrations. Perhaps @biggreenbooks.bsky.social has some to sell too? (And perhaps he can show us the cover?)

I just noticed my Christmas cactus is in full flower.
Considering that I nearly killed it this summer, it’s even more impressive!

She is gorgeous!
Here is my little twat: Bea, 8 month old Labrador, who loves mud, water and food. Well, actually, food is God and comes before everything.

Mind you - I tried a new Tunisian Crochet pattern this week. It’s stunning. And it was supposed to be a hat for an adult
But I so got the measurements wrong… 😬🫣 It wd just about fit a baby…
I’ll admire the colours for a while, then it shall be frogged!

Knitting & Crochet is my happy place. You concentrate on a stitch in time, & everything else has to fade away.
2 yrs ago I even started working for a few hrs in a local yarn shop. Next Friday I’m running a Tunisian Crochet Course. It’s fun. People are nice. It keeps me sane(ish).

Bea says “hi”.
Not a hint of regret for being a greedy guts, followed by being violently sick over the - cream - sofa….
Fortunately I love her.

It is completely industry-led.
