The first meeting of the committee to scrutinise the assisted dying bill is today

I am not a member but have signed a programme motion to ensure it follows the normal timetable (ie Tues-Thurs sittings, so amendments can be done midweek), increase the time for witnesses and improve the witness list

The Leadbeater assisted suicide committee has just voted 14 to 8 against hearing evidence from the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Both ministers on the committee voted against.

This is shameful. The entire scrutiny process has been discredited before it even began.
