life seemed so simple then.

so, when are you going to cut our taxes?

they should be asked this question every single day
ellisor.net
okay.

I think that it’s still possible for a peaceful movement to stop all this. the numbers are there, and this regime’s incompetence is obvious for all to see.

that said, I myself am less optimistic about this than I was in January— and I wasn’t too optimistic then.

not sure the palatable ones are still possible
ellisor.net
the number of ways this all plays out is dwindling down maybe 5 or less, and only 1-2 are palatable.
ellisor.net
most if not all were more repressive than the current US regime, which is currently *mostly* bluster. certainly the US has a stronger democratic inertia than any of those did.

it’s possible we end up at a point of no return. not quite there yet.
ellisor.net
increasingly obvious that he’s not really calling the shots.

he is a marionette of his inner circle.
ellisor.net
howdy!

I’ll give you more than one successful peaceful revolution.

and I don’t even mention Gandhi’s and MLK’s great work.

I believe you! (thus my 'inexpert' asterisk)
I wish we had more than 300 characters for me to understand why that is so.

cheers.

I live in Austin.

if it's necessary for this very American (and very Texan) expression of free speech to continue, I hereby pledge $1000 toward the $140,000 fee. I feel confident we could find 139 other Austinites willing to do the same (I could probably find 5-10 myself).

let freedom ring, man.

"I'd love to do something about that" -- Trump floats the idea of stopping a planned protest in Austin

I think the Dem governors and mayors can and should do more, legally and nonviolently. some ideas off the top of my head
- order DOT to close roads near ICE facilities
- conduct routine power and water maintenance to facilities
- mire them in endless legal knots
- refuse any support whatsoever
ellisor.net
first off, I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. this Texan is *on your side* (i.e. on the side of a kind, rational, democratic United States).

this thread is what I have to say about that. in short: pressure your local leaders to remove the oxygen of the feds.

and “peaceful” is the key. it’s the only way to go and we all know it in our hearts.

“kinetic” is for unimaginative toddler losers. effective peaceful resistance takes intelligence, creativity, and far more grit than paramilitary cosplay.
ellisor.net
it’s time for the real resistance, not just posting memes and blue heart emojis. real, active, peaceful, sustained, intense, broad resistance.

we have to persuade leaders to lead it and support them when they do.
ellisor.net
that's a long-standing argument for the folks of DC and it has constitutional aspects that are beyond me.

but in principle, yeah, I am absolutely on that side.

for AZ-7, though, it's about going from "we were legally represented" to "now we're not." which is IMO a cut-and-dried case.

can you *prove* you’re a US citizen?

someone in AZ-7 needs to sue him under the 14A as they are currently not represented in the House, and unconstitutionally so
ellisor.net
that is vile.

I am always on the side of non-violence, no matter the target.

will MAGA join me in this stance?

the look in this guy's eyes: a melange of fear, fatigue, impatience, and, frankly, just stupidity.
zoom-in of the original photo, centered on the balaclava'd face of the "agent" in question. his eyes are wide and his nostrils are flared. he looks unwell to me.
ellisor.net
they don’t care.

they only need to give the 38% their jollies; the remaining 62% either don’t care or don’t care enough to really do anything substantial about it.
ellisor.net
this is the stupidest fucking thing, Mo
ellisor.net
yes but for real.
