Hi hi! I'm Eloise, a writer and illustrator specializing in animal characters and their communities.
Join me as I make the sort of illustrations I pored over as a kid, share books (and video games) I love, and attempt an assortment of crafty hobbies.

For the last two years I’ve lackadaisically participated in Peachtober with some tiny, rainbow-pencil drawings.

This year I’m less prepared than ever and already behind, but I can’t resist this pun. Let’s go!

The Golden Boy’s Guide to Bipolar by @sonorareyes.bsky.social

September is for (highly anticipated, incredible) sequels!

I was so excited for the follow-up to Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School but this book exceeded my expectations. Surprising, authentic, brutal, tender, warm.

Next edition (number 11! I’ve been doing this for almost three years!) goes out on Wednesday and is sort of about dentists and, of course, sort of about books.

Also when you sign up you can download some cute digital wallpapers, if you’d like.
Six colorful phone wallpapers: variety of witchy animals on lime background, red pandas in pink and in coral, rainbow bookshelves on lilac background and on dark purple background, and line drawings of animals on light teal background.

Today, Providence is the least affordable city in America for renters and costs are going up for everyone.

Together, we can make Providence a city all our neighbors can afford and where everyone feels welcome.

I mean that would explain it!

And it would explain why I like drawing noodley dogs like borzoi who are arguably all bones.

Seriously! I can’t believe the art is BETTER than the previous book but I think it might be? (And I wouldn’t have said there was any room/need for improvement.)

Entirely off-brand! It simply isn’t fair 😩
eloisenarrigan.com
Also arguably the most off-brand thing about me is that I’m quite allergic to cats despite seeming like I own several.

I don’t know if I’m getting better at drawing cats but I think I’m getting better at drawing boxes of candy and deli meats.

I find cats weirdly difficult to draw (they’re complex and mysterious, as is their right of course) so I’ve been doing little warmup thumbnails using @bodegacats.bsky.social as reference.

Each one of these is about 2 and a half inches tall.

Toad from the "Frog and Toad" series, performing on a stage. The character is illuminated by a spotlight, wearing an elaborate green costume with ruffles, a cape, and buckled shoes, and is striking a dramatic pose with arms raised. The stage has a wooden floor, and in the foreground, rows of empty theater seats are visible. Illustration.

The Witch in the Tower by Júlia Sardà

This was one of my most anticipated books for this year. It entirely lived up to my lofty, internal expectations and still surprised me, too.

Also somehow even though it’s excellent, it didn’t make me want to throw all my work into a well.

Absolute garbage that there are any barriers to getting this; I hate it.

If you (or anyone else) in Rhode Island/Providence still needs one, I just got mine from the Walgreens on Atwells, no rx needed. (But that’s an individual solution for a systemic problem.)
