Pied billed Grebes have been given many different nicknames,like "water-witches" or or "devil-divers" due to their amazing ability to quickly disappear under the marshy waters of salt marshes and estuaries with a little splash to escape their predators or to help them find food! 12/13/25

a whimbrel(numenius hudsonicus) taken yesterday,Malibu lagoon state beach,Malibu,California. my first decent shot of this beautiful shorebird! and literally was so happy to even see one of these again! 😍 this is actually a subspecies of whimbrel,the hudsonians whimbrel,notice the pink on its bill?
