All the actors are really good in their roles, especially the returning Biehn and Hendriksen. Really reminded me why I loved Bishop so much.

Odd thing, I wonder if Ridley Scott enjoyed the story because there were moments that reminded me of his prequels

Still, check it out if you’re an alien fan

Alien 3 audio drama

An audio drama on a book based on a scrapped script of a sequel to Aliens where they weren’t sure if they could get Sigourney Weaver was pleasantly solid little story. One I probably like better than the Alien 3 we did get
Bizarre, a bit busy, & chaotic but still fun and scary

Or on substances
Or both.

Legit, I can only remember there was a DIU poster in the background, and that’s about it.

War of the Worlds 2025

It sucks.
Everyone knows it by now. It was obviously filmed during Covid and just shuffled off onto Amazon prime way too late for any sort of relevancy.
Bad effects, bland performances, a simultaneously brain dead and overly involved script.
Only watch this with friends…

The music was all suitably catchy, with a surprising amount of variety slipped in like a techno number for Doc. Also, really cool to give Goldy a song and a bigger role.
Of course, they had the stable songs from the film like Johnny B Goode and Power of Love.

Just a big and fun show

Though, they did not skim on the effects, the sets were incredible even in the back row, and the projection overlay was super impressive. So astonished to see they had a full size DeLorean, Time Machine prop that moved around.

Also would like to highlight performers of Doc & Marty for lil improv

Back to the Future the Musical

I was taken to see a live production of this musical awhile back and it ended up about what I expected.
It stick pretty close to the original film, only taking liberties to condense and cut some scenes and locations for the sake of the stage.

I think this movie really nails the balance between explaining the mythos of this story without showing too much.
I’m so tired of horror clinging to ambivalence and ambiguity to try and maintain a sense of “macabre mystery” or whatever.

Btw, avoid this movie if you dislike face gore.

The multiple POVs and slow burn reveals were so engrossing for me. All of the casts’ performances are captivating and I don’t doubt them as real people for a second.
It really helps that Cregger writes interesting interpersonal drama that is just as good as the mysterious main plot.

Weapons

Caught this one in theaters as soon as I could when it came out. From the tagline alone I was invested in the mystery of this movie, even if I didn’t love Zach Cregger’s last movie Barbarian. Super glad I got to enjoy this one with no spoilers and experience it clear.

I’ll be interested to see where they go from here - Largely due to the quality & my enjoyment, partly to see what status quo it’ll fall into after the explosive start.

Btw favorite joke is “I’m gonna inject myself with ant eater DNA and then ant DNA”

Also bravo to David Herman on his double roles

Guys Next Door Pilot

An animated YouTube pilot from this year that’s super impressive and pretty promising.
The pilot is filled with industry talent from the creator/writer to the voice cast. It is paced with snappy and clever jokes. It has a unique and striking style/art direction.

Also, have to shout out the people behind the stop motion : Samuel Lewis, Gerald Thompson, and Glen Hunwick.

For anyone curious, it’s free up on YouTube and only about 13 minutes long.

Rebooted 2019

Finding out about the movie indirectly through Mr Sunday Movies, the short film was a delight. Clear passion and creativity makes it instantly charming.
Also done by Shanks, it has this simple but compelling plot, all told with no dialogue and stellar effects.

The whole movie runs the gamut of scares, humor, romance, and drama. A real fresh and unique movie that I hope leads to more like it, whether in a similar boldness or more opportunities to the creatives behind it.

Dave Franco and Alison Brie have great chemistry (unsurprising since they’re married in real life) and both do a great job of a walking the tightrope in their performance of funny, dysfunctional, loving, and compelling complex couple.
Thanks to sharp writing and direction from Micheal Shanks

Together 2025

From the trailer, I was excited for this body-horror romantic comedy, and getting to see it in theaters was a real threat.
With the simple and straightforward idea of a magical force pulling two people together to fuse, it gives the characters and their relationship a chance to shine.

At some point I’ll have to check of Gray & Palmiotti’s other New 52 Freedom Fighters mini, Phantom Lady & Doll Man, but probably will have to wait until next year.

Something I really dug was the villain. A bizarre film director with godlike powers feels oddly fitting for a Cali light-based superhero.

Lucien was also a surprisingly likable protag who has clever moments, a good scene of right, and a bit of humor.
Even if he did sci-fi brown face at one point.
