In fairness to Percy, on whom I did my dissertation, the novel Lancelot is not typical of work. It's his worst novel, and the murderous Lancelot Lamar is his most repellent character. An oft-repeated refrain of Lancelot's that may have resonated with Vaught is, "I cannot tolerate this age."
