I think attitudes are changing but our skill is still not valued, the studio rate in the uk for professional freelance embroiderers is little more than the minimum wage. Absolutely this stems from the “women’s work” attitude and I find it soul-destroying. But I will continue to fight the good fight!

Traditionally goldwork at the RSN has been taught as a set wheat-sheaf spray design (as seen on coronation robes) but this year we were given free reign, which I was delighted about as goldwork is such a great technique when used imaginatively 🪡
