When I was 15 in Madison, WI, my SAT prep summer school teacher assigned us this book. The teacher was a hip dude who hated the Educational Testing Service with a passion so wanted us to know—and outwit—our enemy. The book, since updated, is satisfyingly withering about both the “test” and the ETS.

While reflecting on your replies, I caught up with “How the Liberal Media Helped Fascism Win,” two episodes of the “Behind the Bastards” podcast with scorching notes for the NYT. Amid them, cohost Robert Evans makes this exception for good reporters and editors. I’d add those reformers I mentioned.
