The flipside of this is when someone new to a field that I have experience in asks a basic question that can be answered by a quick glance at Wikipedia. I post a link to the relevant article and they act like I've opened the gates of heaven to them.

"25% of people spend one hour per day in metaverse" factoid actualy just statistical error. no one uses it except Metaverse Mark, who lives in his mother's basement & uses it over 10,000 hours each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

I've said it before: Transmetropolitan significantly overestimated the impact of Spider Jerusalem publishing the crooked politician's secrets. In reality the people who love him won't believe you and the people who don't love him don't need convincing.

It's interesting to compare verilog with gardening:
* you spend a lot of time and effort doing something that won't pay off until later.
* the moment you turn your back bugs creep in.
* now and then you can look at the results with pride.
* Next year you'll have to do it all again.

As an electrical engineer who worked in digital communications, I thoroughly endorse this statement of fact.

Aircraft carriers are basically just big boats so it stands to reason that they'll roll a bit when cornering, but you just don't imagine what it means when something the size of a small town does so.

Wow - thanks for that. I used to drive through that area a few times a year and miss those vistas.

My Dad once said that about one of my cats. It took me a while to forgive him for that.

There are those who say that cats don't have the musculature necessary to show facial expressions. We call these people "wrong".
