some of us were warning about this 10 years ago when NIST released a tattoo database called Tatt-C, which they built by taking pictures from non-consenting incarcerated people

Working with an interdisciplinary team, we have developed a website to communicate how the White House's proposed cuts to health research would cause losses of $16B and 68,500 jobs.

Find out how your community may be impacted.

Here are photos of the zine itself. It's a single piece of 8.5" x 11" paper, printed on both sides, cut in half, and stapled twice. If you have the means, why not make one the next time you head out to a protest? The 30 people I gave mine to seemed to be (somewhat) excited to receive them. (3/3)

The “ it’s just”

Is actually how DEI ended up mostly benefitting white women and how when it’s time to pull it

There’s a website of mostly Black people , most of them women for nearly a month

While white professors are arguing about generals over “white supremacy” OR misogyny

This is also how philanthropy works across the country.
Democrats are beholden to a donor class that will not fund them if they take actions that are popular amongst the left.

Overwhelmingly, these actions would be to regulate and restrain capitalists and billionaires.

So they are left trying to invent a party that will want what donors permit.
The reason Democrats keep trying to win over the center-right isn't because it's the best way to win, it's because they would rather not be beholden to the Left to win elections and winning over the center-right would allow them to discard the Left.

it took a year and a half but my first reader cover story is finally out!

it's a deep dive into how the cook county sheriff's office worked with the university of chicago to build a web of surveillance for people one electronic monitors.

but there's so much more. strap in. 🧵
Cook County’s web of surveillance for electronic monitoring
Sheriff Tom Dart worked with the University of Chicago’s Steven Levitt to create a program that could “match” people on EM to reported crimes.

Pop Psychology has a lot of people thinking calling someone “narcissistic” is the same as naming the harm done

And MH stigma means folks feel comfy saying the narcissist is the worst person in the room and sometimes … they are NOT

Friends, for something to be open source, we need to see

1. The data it was trained & evaluated on

2. The code

3. Model architecture

4. Model weights.

DeepSeek only gives 3, 4. And I'll see the day that anyone gives us #1 without being forced to do so, because all of them are stealing data.
