Fun fact: Latin American people, women, and Nobel Laureates can all be fascists. The relevant question when it comes to fascists is not "What is their gender?" nor "What is their ethnicity?" nor "What awards have they won?" The relevant question is "Do they support fascism?"

“I am not in denial, I am in open rebellion.” Perfect.

Fair. Though Revenger's Tragedy has a guy's tongue nailed to the floor by the guy who spends the entire play talking to his dead girlfriend's skull.

And for the real off the wall shit, you've got to get away from Shakespeare. Take Your Five Gallants, in which a group of degenerate gamblers, pimps, etc. were played by children. Or 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, a beautiful love story between a man and his sister, where he impregnates and murders her.

The aesthetics Jacobean and Caroline theater are fucking wild. If you think The Tempest is nuts, it is nothing next to Cymbeline, a play which contains the stage direction, "Jupiter descends in thunder and lightning, sitting upon an eagle. He throws a thunderbolt. The Ghosts fall on their knees."

If there is no legal mechanism to do it, then they will, by definition, be thrown into *illegal* chaos. And by "if Trump is taken seriously," you presumably mean "if cops and prisons decide to ignore the law." That could happen, as they already routinely do, but you should describe it accurately.

So many problems emerge from the fear that someone might get something they don't deserve and the corresponding notion that we should structure our entire society around making sure it never happens. Which is why I think of this bit from Ursula Le Guin's The Dispossessed at least once a week.

Many such cases.

There was a period in the early oughts when I lived on the south shore of Massachusetts and I swear I saw Flogging Molly five times in like two years because they were always playing cheap shows in either Providence or Boston.

I hope that you start getting enough practice to become very good at it.

I'd even wonder if the percentage among Republicans has dropped. It seems like right wing conspiracies have proliferated in the past fifteen years or so, and maybe that supplants some of the interest in aliens?

I'd even bet it's more like 99, and probably a decent number of decimals after that.

No one cares about your feelings. If your plans for action don't involve removing Schumer and Durbin from leadership and ensuring that no one who voted yes will ever have a role in the party again, then you should resign.

Yeah, but the good news is there’s only one loser in this game and he’s dead. Everyone who plays is a winner.

Thanks for this! I was trying to figure out which racist.

I'm not much of a fan of electoral solutions, but I do have a suspicion that a constitutional amendment fixing the salary and max wealth of gov employees in all branches to a multiple of the minimum wage (say, 10x for for salary and 1Mx for wealth) would solve a lot of problems.

Freedom of movement is a right. Not a legal one, which is one bit of proof that legality and morality are orthogonal at best. If you don’t want borders, don’t support border enforcement.
November 6, 2025 at 11:17 PM
Well, there’s where we disagree. I don’t believe borders have ever been useful except to those who want to control others. People with convictions still get to decide where they live, and anyone who wants armed men to stop them is doing evil. If a border can keep them out it can keep you in.

Counterpoint: yes it is. Doing bad things with a process is not substantially better than doing bad things without one.

That seems unnecessarily cruel the denizens of the forest. Maybe they could go live in an Ohio diner? A farm upstate?

There is no such thing as an "AGI-level model." They might as well be granting access to unicorn horns and dragon teeth.
