Yep, Microsoft cut its single player mode to add cross play instead. Which in hindsight, they could’ve shipped a campaign first and later updated to add cross play

People like you want to blame the developer, yet they were heavily restricted by Microsoft. The FPS originally had a system shock-like campaign planned for it but Microsoft had it scrapped in favor of cross-play. Many of the developers were fans of the tabletop already

“They had no idea what they were doing with the Shadowrun license”, are you sure about that or are you just speaking from your feelings? I’m guessing you loved the Shadowrun Returns series, by Harebrained Schemes, co-founded by the same Mitch Gitelman than led FASA Studios to develop the 2007 FPS..

Technically it was Microsoft wanting to focus on cross-play with GFWL that made them cut the story mode, but Halo 3 was likely the bigger distraction for Microsoft than Gears

GFWL was its multiplayer so gutting GFWL means gutting multiplayer. They’d need to port the multiplayer over to Steam matchmaking or EOS

Unpopular opinion, that I’m having to have with my mother as well. Your pets are better off being rehoused than forced into homelessness. You allow one person into the program with pets and suddenly you have everyone bringing their untrained animals into a semi-shared space. A big liability for them

So you did get the game going.. so it wasn’t a Vista problem. No shit you wouldn’t have liked it if you just played bot matches and never got to experience online matches
The game isn’t a bot simulator, if played online as a competitive tac shooter, the game is goated. Sorry u had a bad experience

The “servers” are peer to peer so the game has always worked. It’s just an 18 year old game so it takes organizing 4+ players to get a game going
