Ms. Machado made a calculation similar to FIFA and many others. That Donald Trump is susceptible to preposterous acts of flattery and submissivensess.

She gave away a token of the Nobel Committee's respect for her courage and hope that she may speed Venezuela's move toward democracy.

Midnight Run is very well done. You can practically smell the stale coffee and cigarette smoke. I usually re-watch when feeling down . . . and then feel worse.

Clarke / Kubrick of course lacked our contemporary experience with AI. But when rewatching 2001 (for the umpteenth time; love it), HAL sounds to me like he is hallucinating.

For a person living in Illinois, the similarities of the Ohio chicanery to the federal cases against Exelon/Commonwealth Edison and former House Speaker Michael Madigan are striking.

In Chicago today, the ICE guys are costumed and walking around like the "black bloc" provocateurs at the 2012 Chicago NATO summit. And that they sometimes run for the nearest hole when confronted, the behaviors are similar. But of course their politics are a little different.

Like a Terry Stop. Except completely different.

The amalgam of gear and costuming these guys wear is almost comical. As if they are headed to arrest Bin Laden in Tora Bora.

The NYT real time fact checking and analysis was terrific. Also provided some welcome LOL moments.

Since the day he came into office, Trump has been pushing at the walls of what is allowed, searching for soft spots. Turns out there is a great deal of soft. But when he bumps into people with spines and principle, he backs off.
