Portlanders will not be cowed by this administration. When undignitaries like Kristi Noem visit for their photo ops and get mocked by people in animal costumes it’s because that’s the level of respect they deserve. Doing the work of mass deportation is the least honorable thing a person can do.

What we’re seeing now is not people “[beginning] to view their own government’s security forces as an occupying army”—the federal agents are becoming an occupying army, and the violence is theirs. The violence is already here.

Chilling insight by @barbarafwalter.com: "Once citizens view their own government’s security forces as an occupying army, violence becomes inevitable. Trump’s team knows this… They’re trying to trigger the very unrest that would justify further crackdowns."

via www.nytimes.com/2025/10/07/o...
Screenshot from a NYT article by Thomas Edsall, quoting Barbara Walter of UC-San Diego: "The quickest way to piss people off is to send soldiers into their neighborhoods especially when there’s no reason for them to be there. It’s inherently provocative, and Trump and his team understand this. Research by the political scientist Robert Pape shows that the single most powerful predictor of suicide terrorism is the presence of foreign troops on local soil. People hate, hate, hate that. They hate the humiliation, the powerlessness, the feeling of being occupied.

"Once citizens begin to view their own government’s security forces as an occupying army, violence becomes inevitable. Trump’s team knows this. In fact, that’s the point. They are not trying to restore order; they’re trying to trigger the very unrest that would justify further crackdowns. In the end, violence serves their ultimate end: They want to create the illusion of disorder so they can tighten control and stay in power indefinitely."

So 100 private and public officials went to the twin cities on a STUDY TRIP with the Metro Chamber and there's no media outrage? No "junket" articles? Or what about the state legislators who went to Vietnam? No?

Hmmm 🤔

Everything is stupid and dangerous right now, *but* we have an opportunity to make a least one thing less stupid and dangerous.

Please submit a comment to the PDX city planners asking them to prevent any further expansion of liquid fuel storage at the CEI Hub and mandate a fuel drawdown.

A wonderful family in our neighborhood will soon lose the home they've been renting for over a decade from REACH, a local housing non-profit that is selling all of their houses to a for-profit business. One home in the neighborhood has already been sold and flipped at market rate. More will follow.

Oregon Republicans know they can't use an image of the actual (small, tame) protest in Portland to illustrate Trump's fever dream and their fake intel, so they had to make one from stock photos of South American "Policia" leaning on riot shields + what looks like Brazilian football fans with flares

It was maybe the wildest week in Portland news since Damian Lillard hit The Shot, and this story understandably flew under the radar. But if you're interested in what could happen when 1/3 of city councilors are, ahem, socialists, look no further than a recently closed Gateway Fred Meyer.

Amidst everything going on with Trump's attack on the cities like Portland, I don't want to miss the very important and urgent need to condemn Israel's interception of the Sumud Flotilla and call for the immediate release of Paul Reid and Stephen Wahab, two Portlanders held hostage.

TLDR: Judge Immergut GRANTS a 2nd TRO blocking the Trump admin from sending ANY federalized troops from ANY state into Oregon/Portland. (Full hearing thread below)
joshuajfriedman.com
Judge: That's what I'll do. Prohibit federalization or deployment of any NG troops into Oregon. For all reasons in prior opinion. Deployment of federalized military is ultra vires and contrary to law, violating Title 10, section 12406. I also find it's likely that defendants violate 10th Amendment.

To those in the armed forces, it’s not simply that you have a right to disobey an unlawful order. You have a duty.

When the Oregonian talks about the opinions of "Portlanders", what they really mean is the 10 rich guys in a trenchcoat who fund every right wing political project in this city.
ecosozialismus.bsky.social
Look at how they characterize the purveyors of this message lol.

Mitch’s post highlights a political front group funded by wealthy people & the Oregonian abstracts it into “Portlanders”

Order Summary
6% Tariff Surcharge *
A general 10% tariff was imposed on all European exports to the US, with a higher 20% tariff delayed for 90 days. These tariffs apply to Dutch flower bulbs. Our published pricing does not include the tariffs. We have added a nominal 6% surcharge on the Product Subtotal of each order. (This does not affect the Shipping Charge but is included in the Sales Tax computation.) If the tariff is rescinded prior to our containers sailing from Rotterdam, we will remove the surcharge from orders. If you paid by check, we would send you a refund check. We do not charge credit cards until orders are prepared for fall shipment so the surcharge would be removed prior to payment. We appreciate your understanding.
