Chet gave us quite the scare yesterday. 6 hours at the emergency vet for a puncture in his throat…a lovely fall walk went sideways fast. He’s okay now, but, wow. Feeling grateful. The emergency vet is a rough place & the night didn’t end well for all families there. Hug your babies tonight!

Wow, @jennystalter.bsky.social, amazing story! That ending is so brutal and so good!

I love this story by @iamchrisscott.bsky.social so much! The narrator's fear and desperation is so real.

"...I'm overcome with the sudden certainty that she'll vanish, the door transporting her to the moon or Siberia. But before my fear can get away from me, she's already through."

Sarah is hiking up ahead of me, so she’s the first to see it. She goes around the bend, says “Hey now,” and stops in her tracks. Then I see it, too. Right there in the middle of the trail is a sing…

I’m SUPREMELY proud to be in this anthology of award-winning flash stories - which is also raising money for people facing fuel poverty this winter. The sheer calibre of the writers I’m with is humbling. So if you want to read the best of flash fiction (and me) buy this jam-packed bargain of a book.

Who’s open for flash subs? Have some stories to send out, but not sure where. Thanks!

I love this story, Kathy—I love how you use the continuous present tense throughout—perfect for the narrator and how stuck she seems. You are so good!!!

I love this story by @amygcb.bsky.social! So much whimsy and sadness—the way the community allows Mary Ellen to grieve! So good. 🩷

“What’s next?” I ask. I can’t wait to drive out of this parking lot. My pants are too tight. My feet hurt. Fifteen years of therapy have been erased in less than an hour.

I re-read this every year and it never gets old. “Felonies and gourds have one very important commonality: they’re both extremely fucking real.” Brilliant

“My blood has opened a conduit to an elsewhere, importing emissaries of shell, feather, fur, and hoof to remind me that boundaries leak, that absence is merely another geometry of presence.” Strange and beautiful story—so unexpectedly emotional. I love everything @mizukiyamagen.bsky.social writes!

"There is an aperture in my hand, a thumb-print whirl where tissue once flowed uninterrupted—"

The cool thing about helping run a lit mag is that you are madly in love with everything you publish, like this @mizukiyamagen.bsky.social grief story, which is weird and beautiful and perfect! Check it!

“Wow,” says the shorter man. “Amazing, really,” he says, taking a deep breath. He points at the wall under the crib. “She starts by calculating the weight of the earth,” he says.
