Great question! I think that as long as companies are de-platforming hateful/violent content that is genuinely harmful to others, then that's good. Companies just need to make sure that they are not silencing marginalized groups and only removing objectively hateful content. #UWJ201 #309

I think that if algorithms are limiting viewership due to inappropriate content that might not be suitable for younger viewers, then that's one thing. However, if they are limiting viewership to push their own agenda, that's when things get messy. #UWJ201 #309

I think that finding common ground is definitely attainable in this day and age, but it is extremely hard. We are so divided in our political climate that it is hard to agree with on another. However, I think that if we work hard enough with one another, we can do it. #UWJ201 #309

I definitely feel manipulated when my social media keeps showing me things that I have very clearly shown no interest in and have not interacted with. It makes me feel like my algorithm is trying to push a certain agenda. #UWJ201 #309

This is a great question. I think that if fact-checkers approach their job with the intent to seek out the truth and nothing else, then they should be okay. There shouldn't be any bias involved if they are truly just looking for the truth. #UWJ201 #309

We need to actively seek out news sometimes in order to obtain a healthy media diet. If we only listen to and trust the news that "finds us," then we won't be getting accurate content. #UWJ201 #309

Our political world is so incredibly divided right now, and I don't think that the media helps bridge the divide very well. If anything, news nowadays only further polarizes the two parties, making it extremely hard to come together as one united nation. #UWJ201 #309

I think that bias and interpretation walk a fine line of being mutually exclusive. If you are interpreting something in your own way, that right there is a form of bias. However, I do not think this is a bad thing. If you have good intentions, then there should be no issue with it. #UWJ201 #309

I think a good life is measured by however you want it to be measured. I don't necessarily think that a good life must benefit society, but it is definitely an important aspect. #UWJ201 #309

I love this question! I personally love social media for the fact that it can give me ideas on new things to try or new places to visit, that I might've not thought of before. I really do like being influenced in that regard. #UWJ201 #309

I think that where it gets concerning is when you start to feel like your phone is truly listening to/watching you at all times. This gets to feel invasive and scary, at least for me. #UWJ201 #309

I completely agree with you. I think with the amount of time we spend online, we need to be careful that the media we consume is accurate. #UWJ201 #309

This is a great point. I think a lot of people are drawn to extremely dramatized news, because a lot of the time it is more interesting than "boring" news. People like to be entertained, and unfortunately that involves consuming "mean media." #UWJ201 #309

I definitely think that journalists can dramatize media in order to catch viewers' attention more, but this can definitely be dangerous. If media gets dramatized too much, it can really worsen the effects of mean world syndrome, which is not good for anyone. #UWJ201 #309

I do think this is a problem, especially when journalists manipulate the public into thinking something that might not necessarily be true. In my opinion, the role of the journalist is to provide unbiased, truthful information, while simultaneously grabbing people's attentions. #UWJ201 #309

Alarm journalism can definitely be harmful as it is often similar to clickbait, where the title is really shocking, but then the actual content does not align with the heading. This can really mess with the integrity of journalism, if the title and the actual content aren't the same. #UWJ201 #309

Great question, Carlie! It definitely makes me feel manipulated and like I am being watched constantly, which is a little unsettling. #UWJ201 #309
