But given the source, he obviously doesn't need a diagnostic explanation to be so disconnected from his wife & child. He is.

This has big dementia energy to me. Like in the way that can be sweet if the person involved isn't a fascist president. Where they're like, "I have only a vague notion of how these people are connected to me, but aren't they swell?"

radio stations specifically, not general soundtrack, because there were a limited number you could get in any given region, so it's a taxonomy you can wrap your baby head around. & it's also like the most pure "these are the vibes i invite into my obligation zone" metric.

I have, in fact, moved to several cities. & I've written much better work living where the connecting strings of human lives are most visible to me, the dramas that unfold before me are spoken in subtext layered on my heart since childhood, & I am a player in generations of strange events.

It's 2025, smack in the middle of a festering decade of plagues & housing crisis & poverty & decaying transportation systems. & the memory that we can do things differently is still so close at hand.

"Move to the big city!" simply cannot be the evergreen advice for artists any more.

Yes, some rural &/or disabled playwrights can travel for opportunities, depending on distance, frequency, etc. There are many factors. But a major one is money. If there's no consideration for what *could* be done remotely, there's a huge financial barrier for poor rural playwrights.

...I do think you should be upfront & say "because we aren't interested in the voices of rural & disabled playwrights" in your explanation of this change. & if that doesn't sit well with you, maybe consider if it would be so damn hard to keep options open.
