Many old local BBC news reports had it right at times. I watched one recently about a London family preparing for Diwali in the ‘70s. It was educational, community-centred, connecting. How sad that such direct and honest (pure and simple?) reporting now mainly dwells in old archives, feeling quaint.

The notion of ‘journalism as a social service’ is long overdue. As a pillar of democracy, it has be about the people, community, social purpose, not just state interest and profit agenda. Journalism & media strayed too far b/c the mission became money and big influence/agenda, conflict, division.
