There’s some kind of disconnect between his writing and my understanding and enjoyment of the book. And I’m so sad because so many people love his writing and I know everyone has different opinions but I too wanted to be someone who loved his writing :/

What dropped it down from a 4 was the repetitiveness in the writing. It felt like Ronald was trying VERY hard to make his point and was really hammering it in. I needed more show and less tell.

AND ANOTHER THING - the vampires were great. It felt like a very unique take on the bloodsuckers. Tbf I haven’t read a ton of vampire horror but I’ve never read anything like this.

So just a few more thoughts. I LOVED Néstor and Nena. They were imperfect characters who made mistakes but it made them feel so real and endearing. I had to keep reminding myself that they were 22 and still trying to figure themselves out. Néstor may also be bringing me into a cowboy romance era 🖤🖤🖤

I was just so thrown off. Like there was no establishment as to why they were in love with each other. Other than their quirky personalities??

Saving this book from being a dud was Margaret’s story and I found myself wanting those chapters to be longer.

It felt like a really good movie that you don’t really know what’s happening until the end. Not once did I accurately guess where this book was going. But I think this is a book where you have to give it your attention and a lot of thought.

I will probably read anything SJM writes, but my expectations will be a little lower.

Honestly, I was devastated by how “meh” this book was. The first CC was my definition of perfect and I loved Bryce. But in this one I felt like we really lost her character.

The concept was very interesting and I liked the mixed media approach but I feel like it was too long but I also wanted more? It was very engaging and interesting. If you like found footage-esque horror. I think you’ll like it!
