Microchimerism: the presence of fetal cells found in the mother's/birthing parent's body (not just the uterus, either!). Becoming a mother/parent changes what's inside you.

While cervical dilation is a handy way to determine progress of labor, there are other signs to look for in a laboring person. Watching their face, demeanor, & movements can give some really good information on where they are in labor. Plus, it's much less invasive than a vaginal/cervical exams.
