With the main body of the coat done I moved on to the sleeve caps! These are pintucked for the custom seams and were cut based on the original muslin draft I made. This is where I stopped today for the sake of taking a break. Tomorrow hopefully more sleeve progress.

All of the flatlined edges have handmade bias carefully sewn on in continuous strips with mitered corners. Not my best work tbh but at this point I don't really care; I'm having fun working on this and it's giving the effect I want it to.

Here are some detail shots. The lining is mostly flatline except the front edges because for some reason the bias on the design ends there? Anyways all the textures and color variation is doing exactly what I want it to!

Hi I've been making a lot of progress while I multitask work over the past few days so I haven't updated the thread, but basically all of the coat's details are now one after being meticulously placed, pinned, and handsewn.

It's looking like I'll be able to finish make Melvien this weekend! If I manage to finish him by the end of the week, I'll let myself speedrun Calyx before GATEway.

If I don't get to Calyx though, who should I bring for day 2 instead?

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the greatest games I've played. I wanted to show my love for the game and did so in the only way I knew I could, by learning how to make baguettes!

Oooo how about a twofer? This is my bestie Cinyamon on the left with my gal Lae'knaught on the right. Cinya is a quiet yet still chaotic cat who's constantly having to guide Lae'knaught when she gets distracted by crystals, which happens a lot

The Aeneas pommander makes you gain all of my lore knowledge for 30 seconds, you become infinitely powerful but are also overburdened by the weight of it. You get a dps buff for 1 minute after it wears off

Once all the details were stitched down, I made a ton more bias tape of the gold silk fabric, and stitched in the ditch for this back panel to make it as clean as possible. This panel was then sewing to the full coat back. There's a lot of this bias in my future....

Then came carefully cutting and sewing down more lace and appliqué by hand. I'm doing this with gold thread as well. Slow, but very worth it and it's giving the desired audacious effect I want for Melvien!

Got the body of the coat cut and mostly prepped, including the panels on the back. This was much less scary since it's readily available chiffon from my local fabric shop.

I cut and sewed the lining this evening to check the fit which worked out perfectly! This was an emotionally exhausting task bc I have such a limited supply of this dark pink taffeta: I bought it in Denmark while visiting family this year.

Starting with this breakdown for the lining, leaving the sleeves out for now since I'm breaking the coat out into chunks. Body willing, I'm hoping to get the main body of this done before the end of the weekend.

Drafted this monstrosity before dinner. Genuinely the construction of his garments are comparable to the hoops Fandaniel made me jump through. I love the challenge because it's forcing me to just keep moving. It's been years since the base construction has been so intensive for me.
