to which the obvious reply is, you are missing the point of the genre, but a genre is made of thoughts, not the absence of thoughts. if the definition of the genre is "don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to", that's not a genre, that's a political stance

in a specifically political way, i mean, like this is low-hanging fruit but "we are sweet and run a coffeeshop and there are no problems" are there no negative consequences to being a member of the petit bourgeoisie

the best research I did for this book was making my brother text his college roommates for party planning ideas for Space Cleopatra. (I unfortunately did not use any of Lou Dawg's)

in terms of "facts about ford people are likely to know, in descending order" i feel like it generally goes car guy -> antisemite -> the reason americans all learn square dancing at school but there's SO much more. he wanted to ban milk. he tried to start a milkless colony in brazil

i love that the way they're pitching me is "one of the most original voices in science fiction" like. you know when the people running the, and i cannot emphasize this enough, sff scene look at you and go "yeah, weird. weird guy"

on the other hand, I hated A Farewell to Arms because my copy of the book smelled bad. important to remember that sometimes there is nothing a teacher can do

sincerely loved Catcher in the Rye and I wish it was taught better because it was such a mindblowing experience of "wait, you can DO that (give a first-person narrator preoccupations that convey character without stating it outright)???" like it is perfect for 15 yos! but not for those other reasons

this is not a rec for what your next movie should be, my rec for what your next movie should be is LE COMTE DE MONTE CRISTO (2024), but if you have the time I do recommend both as a double feature on Counts
