TCAS wishes to thank Dr. Nadine Changfoot for her hard work and dedication as Acting Director this past year! We wish her nothing but the best going forward!

She leaves us with this video that speaks to the question: How old is old? And, how do we shift the way society thinks about aging?

As Trump's "big, beautiful bill" guts Medicaid funding, states will be forced to scale back services deemed "optional" under federal law.

Home- and community-based services—like health aides and adult day programs—make up most of this optional spending, so they will be first on the chopping block.

"Solidarity is a precondition for our society, for living together, for cohesion and for mutual support.
But we are living in and experiencing a segregated society and communities. We have to create more space for the exchange of our experiences, fears for the future and positive experiences."

As immigration raids intensify, healthcare and social service facilities must take measures to safeguard their staff and residents.

One key step is to define private versus public areas within facilities, which can impact ICE agents' rights of entry.

❌ Myth: Medicare covers all long-term care needs.

✅ Fact: #Medicaid funds most long-term care in the U.S.

Medicaid also covers other critical services that Medicare doesn't, such as transportation to appointments; motorized wheelchairs and other special equipment; and dental and hearing care.

Without Medicaid, 12 million Medicare enrollees could not access the care they need.

Medicaid funds most nursing home care, pays premiums for 1 in 6 Medicare enrollees, and covers essential services that Medicare doesn't, such as dental and vision care.

The effects of cutting Medicaid will ripple throughout our healthcare system, affecting Americans across all income levels.

Why do women experience Alzheimer's disease at twice the rate of men? It might be genetic, hormonal, social, cultural, or most likely multifactorial. This is just one of many questions that urgently demands ongoing support for biomedical research on sex/gender health. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
