Worse, they're *pretending* to raid the graveyard, then selling their quack nonsense as the real thing. If it were in fact the real thing, it'd be no less monstrous, but at least then they'd rise to the level of actual ghouls.

It's worth a rewatch! Especially the earliest seasons. The writing, the performances, the technical virtuosity of the blocking/camera movement/etc.--all very closely connected to so much that's terrific about The Pitt. I bet it would surprise you!

*Love* The Pitt, but also ER was often quite political! Especially for its era, and especially re: issues of medicine, race, and class in '90s/'00s Chicago. Sure, there was also a ton of melodrama, but I really do think the creative /ideological genealogy is direct.

Oy, well, I'll be curious where you end up! I don't think you'll go wrong, especially on that side of the river. It's such a beautiful area, and you're at least a little ways away from the most concentrated tourist center.

grasshoppers in the soy

A grasshopper, close, hugs a hairy, testicular (sorry, not sorry) soybean amid yellowing leaves. The detail on its green face is sharp and easy to anthropomorphize--two large, dark eyes and a wide, toothy mouth. Two fine, sensitive antennae curve up from the top of its head.
