Somehow I managed to luck into Scituate, despite never having been there. Never crossed my mind to pronounce it with a long A! Now let's argue over Los Feliz. (Not really.)

Worse, they're *pretending* to raid the graveyard, then selling their quack nonsense as the real thing. If it were in fact the real thing, it'd be no less monstrous, but at least then they'd rise to the level of actual ghouls.

Pure disgust at the use of LLMs to reanimate the dead for fun and profit. I don't even care if they previously gave permission, which almost universally they have not.

As I know you know, art is a great entry point to Blake, too. Or even Arthur Conan Doyle, via his father Charles Altamont Doyle. Not exactly zombies, but things still get weird fast:

painted lady

#Photography #Butterfly #Ohio
A Painted Lady perches on a white/pink/yellow bloom alongside a green tuft of spade-shaped leaves. The underside of its facing wing is crammed with detail--segmented and saturated, like a cel of animation or a tattoo. Brown and white, orange and black, lacy webs, disk-like eyes--nature's design in full aesthetic flower.

(Also I think you just called me old. But, you know, fair enough.)

It's worth a rewatch! Especially the earliest seasons. The writing, the performances, the technical virtuosity of the blocking/camera movement/etc.--all very closely connected to so much that's terrific about The Pitt. I bet it would surprise you!

*Love* The Pitt, but also ER was often quite political! Especially for its era, and especially re: issues of medicine, race, and class in '90s/'00s Chicago. Sure, there was also a ton of melodrama, but I really do think the creative /ideological genealogy is direct.

in honor of its having recently been national poetry day, apparently, why not consider these now conveniently gathered in one spot pastiches marrying the content of "this is just to say" to other poems?

I am myself Americano, and yet I wonder whether that niche isn't perhaps a touch saturated at the moment.

So glad to hear that, I can certainly relate. We tend to walk our knees to dust when we travel, too. It's been a pleasure to see your photos--I hope you've had as rewarding an experience as it seems!

Understandable, frankly.

Oy, well, I'll be curious where you end up! I don't think you'll go wrong, especially on that side of the river. It's such a beautiful area, and you're at least a little ways away from the most concentrated tourist center.

It was really terrific. Filled up almost instantly upon opening.

Yes! Osteria Santo Spirito--I think I must have mistaken the name. We ate outside and had a fantastic, relaxed experience.

Ooh! We loved Osteria Santo Spirito, right there. That whole piazza is so pleasant and welcoming.

Not exactly news, but Kelly Reichardt is a gift. Extraordinary filmmaker, extraordinary interview.

"For if stupidity, seen from within, did not so much resemble talent as possess the ability to be mistaken for it, and if it did not outwardly resemble progress, genius, hope, and improvement, the chances are that no one would want to be stupid, and so there would be no stupidity."

Our kaiju response capability has never been less robust, nor more karmically suited for defeat by a pissed off herbivorous sea cow.

Hell, yes! I'd love to see. We were there last year ourselves.

grasshoppers in the soy

#Photography #Insects #Ohio
A grasshopper, close, hugs a hairy, testicular (sorry, not sorry) soybean amid yellowing leaves. The detail on its green face is sharp and easy to anthropomorphize--two large, dark eyes and a wide, toothy mouth. Two fine, sensitive antennae curve up from the top of its head. A grasshopper, very close, in profile, climbing a string-like brown stem from left to right. The sun is in its face, casting light and shadow over the lace-like detail of its wings and legs. The background is amorphous and blurry, mostly drawing focus back to the bug itself.
