This is an image of a hand holding an open novel. the novel reads. Purple flames danced in four ancient braziers, illuminating the larger lower chamber in a faintly lavender hue. The walls of the lower chamber were full of petroglyphs, depicting winged serpents and jaguars appearing to be fed the hearts of sacrifices. In the center of the room a well worn stone table sat stained with what could only be ancient blood. There were grooves carved into the table, which funneled down the legs, into a small recessed part of the floor. The tiny recessed canal surrounded the table, before meeting at a central point and directing the flow away from the center of the room. Behind the sacrificial altar, a carved jaguar, which appeared to be made of obsidian; sat with it’s mouth agape. The artist had carved some form of white stone, placing them in the mouth for teeth. The artist had also elected to use jade for the eyes, Making the face the only place on the stone cat which had color. This is a picture of the ritual chamber. They had to be part of the support structure for the upper chamber. The pillars were carved, again to resemble winged serpents. There was a lot of careful thought which went into the design of this chamber. Beautiful glazed ceramic pots lined the back wall, to either side of the stone jaguar. The dim purple lighting in the chamber made it difficult to make out all of the designs on the pots, or the finer details of the wall glyphs. Especially when someone was looking at them from the opposite side of the room. This is the ruins of an ancient portal. This portal was long abandoned. This meant there was no dragon on guard. Which was both comforting and concerning. The dragons and the portals operated like a magical lock and key. Nothing should have been able to come through this portal. Upon approach I could indeed discern that the Ilgrayan shoot here was nothing more than a post of desiccated petrified wood. Laying my hand cautiously on the surface I blinked. There was still a small bit of energy coursing through the stony wood. It was humming with magic. Something had indeed activated the portal for it to be humming like this. I knew because I have visited the former location of my portal. The tree there hadn’t started to petrify yet as it had only been 150 human years since the portal had destabilized. This meant it had only been 15 fae turns. In those 15 turns that former portal tree had lost all of its energetic resonance. Leaving it a dead cell. Cautiously I knelt down, holding my semper near the base of the tree. The grey stone of the floor looked to have faint marks, almost as if it were somehow scuffed or burnt. Reaching forward with my left hand I scratched my fingers across one of the scuffs. It rubbed away, leaving a small trail. Bringing my hand closer to my face I sniffed. This smelled like soot. Scht, scht, scht, scht. From somewhere nearby in the darkness those scuttering footsteps picked up rapidly. Before I could stand or turn the red hot sensation of claws raked across my back. I cried out, startled from the pain and fell forward. Walking over to the base of the desiccated tree I noticed something shining from the roots, where it protruded through the stone floor. Curious, I knelt down and held my right hand forward, illuminating my semper. There was a round stone of some sort lodged into the roots. The stone appeared to be black and had an obsidian like sheen. Reaching for my hip, I pulled out a dagger. Leaning forward I dissipated the flames from my palm. Grabbing the stone I froze. Energy shot through me. It was vibrant and oddly full of life as our energies connected. I found myself temporarily unable to move.
