The real route to lower bills is renewables, fairer pricing, and insulation

📩We have written to the Shadow Secretary of State to understand the full details of the plan

And as former Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho admitted, more drilling doesn’t lower prices. The North Sea is running out of gas and by 2027 it won’t even produce enough to heat our homes

endfuelpoverty.bsky.social
More concerningly, talk at the Conference of cutting the Warm Homes Plan and boiler upgrade support would trap more families in cold, damp homes for longer

The Conservatives’ so-called “Cheap Power Plan” looks more like a headline than a saving

On closer examination, it appears that the proposal to axe carbon pricing and ripping up renewables contracts won't cut bills immediately, but could spook investors risking higher prices later on

The fix? More renewables, fairer electricity pricing, and a nationwide home-insulation drive so lower wholesale prices flow through to households

Marginal Gains: how wind is pushing gas out of the power market and…
Growth in British renewables cutting electricity prices by up to a quarter.

And the direction of travel is clear: renewables have hit record shares of UK electricity this year. We should lock in those gains, not roll them back

But let’s not be complacent: the market still relies on marginal pricing, which too often lets gas set what we pay

New analysis shows that without Britain’s existing wind fleet, 2024 day-ahead electricity prices could have been up to 33% higher (around £24–25/MWh more)

That’s real money off bills when clean power sets the price, not gas

The Renters’ Rights Bill is close to the finish line, but without a clear commencement date, millions of renters remain vulnerable to losing their home through no fault of their own

We’re backing the call on Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook to set a date for the end of s21 evictions

🚨Renters are still waiting for security in their homes
The Government promised to ban Section 21 "no-fault" evictions over a year ago, yet renters are still left in limbo, not knowing when they’ll finally have the security they deserve

📢The only way to cut bills and secure our energy future is to move away from expensive gas and invest in British renewables and warm, energy-efficient homes

#EndFuelPoverty
endfuelpoverty.bsky.social
By 2027 the UK won’t produce enough gas to heat our homes. By 2050, we’ll be almost entirely reliant on imports – paying global prices set by countries like Trump’s America and Qatar

That means higher bills for households already struggling, while global firms pocket the profits

🚨Repealing the Climate Change Act would be a disaster for households and for our energy future

Kemi Badenoch claims the Conservatives want to put “economic growth and cheap energy first”, but there is no way to deliver lower bills or energy security by keeping us hooked on gas

👉Over 12 million UK households are still struggling to pay their bills.
👉Energy debt is at record levels.
👉Almost a quarter of every bill goes straight into industry profits.

We need a long-term plan to bring bills down, tackle debt, and build a secure energy future powered by renewables.

❗From tomorrow, the energy price cap goes up again.

📸Don’t forget to submit your meter readings today to avoid being overcharged.

But for millions, this is about more than admin:

📈Almost a quarter of every household energy bill doesn’t go on keeping the lights on, it goes straight into the pockets of energy companies.

New analysis shows around 24% of bills are taken as profit, while millions struggle with debt and cold homes.

📈Wholesale costs for UK natural gas are still 246% higher than in winter 2020.

Even when prices dip, the swings only highlight one thing: gas is volatile and unreliable.

Households are left paying the price, with Ofgem’s unit gas costs up 80% since 2020.
