and it's treated kind of like this thing thats not that serious. but they work with a ton of chemicals and it takes YEARS of technical skill to become experienced. Another option: find a stylist WITH hair like yours/the cut you want. when i wanted a mohawk i went and found a stylist with one! :)

Very possible he didn't have a lot of experience doing dry cuts. It's another one of those things that takes personal effort to learn separate from cosmetology school(depending on where you are taught). Np!! One big thing I learned going to a technical college is that cosmetology is a lot of science

Another tip my barber taught me: ask for a dry haircut. It's the only way he does cuts anymore and he says it helps a lot with curly hair.

they don't necessarily get any training with anyone with textured hair. It's the same reason many cosmos wont know how to do clipper cuts or how to do straight razor shaves. Most beauty schools teach them how to pass state boards only. Gaining skill beyond that requires personal effort. /pt2

100% suggest looking at who the stylists are in a place before going and also asking for someone trained with textured hair. I don't know about where you live, but I work with cosmetology students, and while they are taught the science and how-tos of textured hair /pt1
