“It’s no secret that private equity is extremely aggressive in chasing profits, and when it comes to utilities, the profit motive lands squarely on the backs of ratepayers who don’t have a choice of who they buy their electricity from,” @karleeweinmann.bsky.social told @timelywriter.bsky.social.

Carrboro, North Carolina, took Duke Energy to court after a @energyandpolicy.org report detailed how, as early as the 1960s, precursors to Duke Energy were warned about how their pollution could fuel climate change but then proceeded to promote climate denial to the public.

Philadelphia Gas Works has been exploiting safety PSAs @philadelphiaeagles.bsky.social & @phillies.com games to greenwash dirty fossil fuel as "clean". They also gave out “sustainable” hats–at a sold out Phillies game, on the ratepayers’ dime - as they seek a rate hike. whyy.org/articles/pgw...
Why does PGW spend ratepayer money to promote natural gas as 'clean' energy?
Utility records show Philadelphia Gas Works spent $4.2 million on promotions over a 14-month period ending in November 2024.

@vardiitai.bsky.social says, "This is a troubling attempt by these companies' to quickly erase their own public acknowledgement of the dangers of gas stoves. But you can scrub your website, not the fact of gas stove pollution."

The problem? Board members @sumsung.bsky.social, LG and Bosch Home - that make induction stoves - have all acknowledged publicly gas stoves emit pollutants and are dirtier. When asked for comment by Grist, Samsung quickly pulled these pages from their site and were unresponsive.
