Keeping public lands in public hands. Working toward a clean, affordable, American-made future. Led by Ranking Member Senator Martin Heinrich.
Another illegal stop work order overturned. It was never about national security. It’s all about Trump’s war on cheap, clean power.

We will only reach the promise of America and its ideals by learning from our past, not destroying it. This is unacceptable.

Costs are rising and instead of addressing our energy affordability crisis, this administration is making it worse —blocking cheaper electrons from getting onto the grid and where they are needed most.
January 23, 2026 at 9:23 PM
If Trump wants to lower Americans’ electric bills, then his administration should stop cancelling fully permitted energy projects that would put more electrons on the grid and power millions of homes and businesses.

Another victory for cheap, clean energy and more importantly, the rule of law.

New Mexico is proof that when we invest in clean energy, we get more power on our grid and lower costs for consumers.
January 15, 2026 at 5:24 PM
Trump is creating a hotter and less affordable future for Americans.

Trump promised to cut your energy bills in half. Instead they've gone up 13% since he took office.

He is single-handedly making this crisis worse.

Until there’s more electricity being generated to meet demand, your energy bill will stay high. The fastest way to meet demand is with clean energy, but Trump is killing clean energy projects and all the jobs that come with them.

Sen. Heinrich: The Continental Divide Trail is part of the Triple Crown of Hiking and brings visitors from around the world to climb the spine of the North American continent. For many New Mexicans, it's their local trail where they walk their dog or spend time with their families.

The Trump energy crisis is self-inflicted.

The projects canceled or delayed since Trump’s election would have produced enough electricity to power over 13 million homes.

Now, factories are closing, utility costs are skyrocketing, and 165,000+ jobs are lost.

"If national Republicans continue to make public lands a target of budget cuts, without understanding the unique politics of them in Western states like Montana, some suggest the party will likely have to face the wrath of these voters."

Trump denied disaster aid to rebuild power lines in rural Michigan after a devastating ice storm.

Now, residents could end up picking up the tab...to the tune of at least $4,500 per household.

200+ clean energy jobs folks can build their families around. Cutting-edge innovation. Keeping New Mexico competitive. Kairos is an example of workers in our state leading the way as we grow good-paying jobs and strengthen our clean energy leadership.

The revenue generated by public lands is comparable to hosting 8 Super Bowls per month. They’re more than just places to recreate–they boost our national and local economies and support almost a million jobs. Cutting resources hurts more than recreationists, it hurts communities.

We are at a crisis point for our national refuges. DOGE cuts have threatened our ability to take care of them and manage them effectively.
November 15, 2025 at 5:27 PM
No real consultation. A one-week comment period. And now Trump is rushing to lift Western Arctic protections — railroading Tribes, ignoring community input, skipping NEPA reviews, and putting wealthy interests over everyday Americans.
November 14, 2025 at 8:08 PM
Our National Parks are our “crown jewels.” Just one expert was plugging abandoned mines that leak methane and oil into these lands — until this administration let him go.

Their reckless cuts endanger Americans and create a new public health crisis.

Steven Concho: These places, people refer to them as ruins, or abandoned, but they’re not. We still go to these places. They’re living places that still hold meaning to the Pueblo people...Protecting all these places keeps our tradition alive.

Sen. Hickenlooper: Can you speak to the impact that these staffing cuts have made, especially on energy projects?

Dr. Chris Merritt: The more federal agencies don’t do their job because of staffing, the more it falls to us.
November 7, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Dr. Chris Merritt: I cannot imagine a world where the lack of federal employees is not going to hurt permitting.

Families across the country are bracing for cold weather and skyrocketing electric bills. We need more clean, affordable, American-made energy now.

Trump’s continuous attacks on American clean energy projects mean one thing: working people will pay for his reckless policies.

While Donald Trump is busy spending $250 million of taxpayer money on a new White House ballroom, our rural gateway communities are struggling and our national parks are less safe.
October 22, 2025 at 7:41 PM
In just a few months Donald Trump's war on affordable, American-made energy has killed thousands of jobs, leaving working families without incomes and exacerbating our energy affordability crisis. The latest example ⤵️

The folks who maintain our nuclear weapons stockpile? 80% are being furloughed because of Trump’s shutdown. Meanwhile, Trump keeps spending on his fancy new $200 million ballroom… and House Republicans can’t even shown up to work.
