Thanks for having us. We're glad to see ESOL on the agenda at City Hall. It's key to a more equal London. We urge everyone working with migrant communities to respond to the consultation. Let's make sure learners’ voices are heard: www.london.gov.uk/ITSconsultation #LoveESOL #ESOLforAll

‪📍 City Hall came alive with voices for ESOL!

On 24 June, EfA students performed powerful theatre on ESOL barriers, sparking action & calls for better coordination.

We call for single points of contact in each borough.

#ESOL students, teachers & supporters held a ‘teach-out’ near Parliament urging Keir Starmer's govt to invest in English education—not cut it.

“We are not strangers. I’ve lived here 6 years—London is our home.” – Doris, EFA student

Are you committed to helping us to build strong communities where people know and support each other? Or are you joining the pile on, in a misguided attempt to staunch the rise of Reform and distract from the political failures that your government is now responsible for?
englishforaction.bsky.social
You say migrants should learn English and at the same time, your government is bringing in yet more cuts to adult education that will make it even harder to find an English class.
englishforaction.bsky.social
Prime minister, you talk about the importance of learning English. And you're right - we know that English helps people to talk to their neighbours, defend themselves at work, participate in local groups and institutions.
englishforaction.bsky.social
Further cuts to public services, on top of 15 years where they had been cut to the bone, cause illness and isolation. Racism and scapegoating migrants turns us into strangers.
englishforaction.bsky.social
Obscene rent and poor housing are driving working class families out of our city centres, causing schools to close and communities to be broken up.
englishforaction.bsky.social
Kier Starmer, you were right the first time. Political failure risks turning us into an island of strangers, not migration. Low pay and long hours mean people don't have the time or energy to do much outside of work and childcare.
englishforaction.bsky.social
At EFA we've spent nearly two decades building strong communities and helping people to connect, to make friends, learn together and take action for social justice together. We know a little bit about works and what doesn't.

"Without strong migration rules, we risk becoming an island of strangers" - Kier Starmer 2025
englishforaction.bsky.social
“We welcome migrants, we don’t scapegoat them. Low wages, poor housing, poor public services, are not the fault of people who come here: they’re political failure. So we have to make the case for the benefits of migration; for the benefits of free movement."-Keir Starmer, 2020
