Guy who isn’t using his masters degree in history. Paleontology, archaeology, film scores, hockey, cryptozoology and supernatural nonsense, and politics. I know a little about a lot because my brain is constantly scattered.
I thought having a virtual assistant would be cool back in the day but I find verbalizing what I want quickly enough and coherent enough before it assumes I stopped talking to be harder than just typing. I use the exclusively for playing music when I’m not able to hold the phone.

I’m assuming all these useless tech products of the last decade are simply fronts for military or police use. I’m not really convinced any of this is meant to be an actual product, more a proof of concept for underlying tech. I’m probably just paranoid, though.

Are these the ones that only do a limited range of motions on a preplanned path that don’t really save you any time and after the first year require a monthly subscription to operate?

You’re an optimist! I hope you’re right. I’m more cynical and think once the leadership started complying they doomed themselves in the short term.

And I sympathize with their plight. Fascism puts everyone in impossible positions.

I guess I just wonder what they save by complying. They comply to save the institution but whatever is left has far less credibility. NPS can be full of good people but it exists to serve MAGA now.

You’re right, I guess my point with immigration is that it’s a step beyond: they don’t have real judges, they don’t have access to lawyers, half the time we don’t even know where they are if we wanted to or could help. There’s no good prison system but we could at least make it a little more just.

The concept of proportional justice is lost on most people. If you inconvenience someone half of Americans would want you executed on the spot. Or at least roughed up.

When you go to a regular jail you get a lawyer, can’t be held indefinitely and don’t generally disappear or wind up in an unsafe country with no means to see your family again. Not defending normal “justice” but ICE is operating on a whole other level.

It depends on the circumstances on what the immigrant is doing or how they got here. Just sneaking in? A fine. Committing fraud? Jail time. Either way, I don’t see how there’s an imminent public danger that requires exceptions to normal law enforcement rules.

My point is if there’s a dangerous immigrant refer it to regular law enforcement. There’s no reason to have a separate agency tasked with extrajudicial powers. I’d like to know when an immigrant posed such a danger that we couldn’t go through regular channels to arrest and deport.

I don’t understand why we carved out so many exceptions for an agency entrusted with paperwork crimes. I get that some of it has to use guns or something but the vast majority of ICE should be paper pushers asking people to leave, not assaulting people in the streets in roundups over paperwork crime

And his buddies will make bank under the new deal while the nation as a whole suffers the collapse of its power and reputation and the international order is in shambles. His tactic is the same every time: starve/burn down the thing until someone pays him off personally.

These cowards have absolute terror in their eyes every time they’re caught without masks.

I saw a few minutes of it (a scene with everyone and Giamatti in the bridge) and it seemed like everyone was trying so hard to be quirky. Also, people and the camera were constantly moving and kind of disoriented me a bit. Maybe the show is good but that scene felt a little “try hard.”

Gotta love everyone constantly jumping ship so absolutely no one is left to hold things together. It’s not like they won’t find someone to do it. Better to stay and fuck it up or something.
