If you are a new follower, just know that I talk about Liz Huett a lot! She has become one of my favorite artists and I really love her voice and songwriting. Many years ago, she was a background singer for Taylor Swift, and she also has backing vocals on some of the Taylor's version recordings.

The voice memo lyrics for The Fate of Ophelia... "I spent years in my tower, I was just honing my powers" 👀
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Idk but The Fate of Ophelia is at 83 million and Robin is at 85 million
enoriver1989.bsky.social
The Fate of Ophelia has almost as many Spotify streams as Robin 😭
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Not that it really matters but I think there were two different Drews lol
enoriver1989.bsky.social
I guess it's time for me to watch Taylor on Jimmy Fallon and the Zane Lowe interview... anything else I've missed?

It's interesting how in the past few years, Taylor really emphasizes the words "entertain" and "entertainment" in the context of her job being to entertain people. I feel like in the past she might just talk about songwriting or making music but I don't remember this particular emphasis as much
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Yes I agree, and I can't personally get on board with "she made a bad album on purpose" because... she did not make a bad album, even though I understand some of the mixed reception and criticism

but it feels like someone who wants to publish and share their poetry, and teasing with Taylor Swift connections is a way to help market/sell the book. Just my opinion though, who knows? Glad people are having fun and enjoying the poems!

Idk, a print-on-demand book where you're not paying for professional cover design, editing, marketing, etc. doesn't necessarily have a lot of upfront costs... To clarify, maybe trolling wasn’t the best word to describe it
enoriver1989.bsky.social
The lyrics leaked on August 12
enoriver1989.bsky.social
I agree, it's good to keep in mind the lyrics have been out there for almost 2 months
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Yes definitely, so much of it is stuff she's notoriously obsessed with: second verse describes wanting to win awards as a film director (applies to her with Grammys/music awards but also now her interest in directing), the first verse describes wanting wealth and fame ("bright lights"), etc.

It feels like this person is just trolling to me?

I'm honestly confused by how some people are listening to Wi$h Li$t as fully genuine and not tongue-in-cheek
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Taylor talking about The Black Dog: "Still nobody knows what I'm even talking about on that song. They think they know but they have no idea." Ohh I love her so much
enoriver1989.bsky.social
One hundred streams later and this holds up
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Key change on "whose portrait on the mantle, who covered up your scandals" and just all of Father Figure is an album highlight

This love is pure profit
“When you have a business relationship with someone for 15 years, there are going to be a lot of ups and a lot of downs. But I truly, legitimately thought he looked at me as the daughter he never had. And so even though we had a lot of really bad times and creative differences, I was going to hang my hat on the good stuff. I wanted to be friends with him. I thought I knew what betrayal felt like, but this stuff that happened with him was a redefinition of betrayal for me, just because it felt like it was family. To go from feeling like you’re being looked at as a daughter to this grotesque feeling of “Oh, I was actually his prized calf that he was fattening up to sell to the slaughterhouse that would pay the most.”

The Fate of Ophelia is tremendously catchy and danceable, comes with a preemptively choreographed viral TikTok dance and one of the best music videos Taylor has ever made... I can't see how it's not destined to be a hit!
enoriver1989.bsky.social
I love how Taylor said explicitly that the album cover is meant to be a reference to Ophelia's fate because she drowned, and also that it's a reference to taking a bath at the end of the night after performing the Eras Tour... the contradictions always being the point
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Also I feel like songs Wood and Actually Romantic have that "Taylor Swift said WHAT" effect that will draw in casual listeners lol
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Yeah, I mean Shake It Off is one of Taylor's biggest hits ever! I think Fate of Ophelia is a great radio song/dance party song, the TikTok dance has been preemptively choreographed and handed to fans, and I can see it being very popular!

regardless of how this all shakes out, i do think this album & these lyrics provide a perfect example of fans jumping to conclusions abt what songs are about without actually listening at all
enoriver1989.bsky.social
Felt the need to add the album does have some great lyricism and I, too, love fun pop songs to dance to! Haha
