What if the doctor has laryngitis and is therefore a hoarse doctor?

You know what happens if you tax a billionaire 99%? They’re a multimillionaire. They still have much more than enough.

But you are indeed right that the massive power imbalance that the wealth hoarders wield is the reason why we can’t effect the measures that would stop their harm. A classic chicken-egg problem.

Massive corporations are fine if control over them is spread out among a proportionally massive number of people, but not when the power they represent is concentrated into the hands of very few people.

A sufficiently powerful (and loophole-free) wealth tax would fix inequality by taking away the obscene power that the wealth hoarders use to avoid consequences. Of course, they would try to destroy the world with nuclear weapons before paying such a tax.

I don’t think there are better ideas. But the taxes need to be on wealth, not just income, and they need to be extremely strong. They must eliminate wealth hoarding absolutely.

And yeah, “in a polycule with” is maybe the most family-friendly way to describe it.

A thought that occurs to me as I note that Mary Wollstonecraft married William Godwin and birthed Mary Shelley who married Percy Shelley who were in a polycule with Lord Byron who fathered Ada Lovelace who was besties with Charles Babbage…

It’s fine as long as your dog isn’t a religious institution.

The joke’s on them: “adon” was the also basis of the names of plenty of pagan gods. (Which was isn’t even slightly surprising given that it just means “lord”.) The Greek demigod Adonis likely got his name from an imported Semitic god.

I’d like to emphasize that one of the main points in Sarah Marshall’s conclusion to this episode is indeed to take away the damn guns.

And reason four is that power imbalance corrupts.

Don’t take that ring from Sauron! He forged it all by himself so he deserves every molecule of it. I mean, as long as he acts responsibly, and why shouldn’t he? And even if he doesn’t, don’t destroy it! I’m sure someone like Galadriel or Gandalf would do so much good with it.
