We once nearly lost America’s wolves, but through decades of hard work and legal protections, this iconic species has been able to slowly recover. Now these cruel practices and unnecessary killings threaten years of progress.

While “wolf whacking” remains solely a Wyoming practice, other states have found their own cruel methods of wolf killing, from leaving wolves to die in steel traps to killing pups in their den.

A heartbreaking example of this is Theia, a young wolf who was run down by a hunter’s snowmobile in Wyoming. Severely injured, she was then paraded around a local bar, used as a prop for selfies, and ultimately shot.

Wyoming’s “wolf whacking” is a recreational “sport” in which wolves, coyotes, and other wild animals are chased down, run over, and killed by riders on light snowmobiles.
