A coworker proposed adding automatic "AI" code review feedback on all pull requests. I said I was adamantly opposed to this idea and he asked me to articulate why. This was my response. (I had to include the second placeholder image to get the entire message transcript into the alt-text)
![Why I am opposed to the use of LLM "AI"
* It is unethical
* all of the commercial LLM models rely on intellectual property theft to train their models
* there is no consent - there is no way to opt out of having your data used to train LLM models
* I don't trust that [company] intellectual property isn't being stolen by the LLM models in use by employees - LLM companies have done nothing to earn our trust
* It is bad for the environment
* "AI" datacenters consume inordinate amounts of power contributing to global warming/climate change
* power bills in places with "AI" datacenters nearby are roughly 230% larger than they were 5 years ago
* we don't actually know how much power the current models consume, since they no longer release numbers, but when OpenAI did release numbers they were not good and you can bet they would be bragging about it if the newer models were actually more efficient

My Abstract Algebra professor would tell the story that when people learned he was a mathematician they'd often say, "I'll bet you're really good with numbers!" And he'd respond with, "not really, but I'm GREAT with letters!" I don't think this is what they mean when they say gpt5 is at phd level...
