And finally, the last speaker of this session @oskolkov.bsky.social delved into the impact of #microbial #contamination in reference #genomes 🧬 when investigating ancient environmental samples! Disinfecting these genomes seems the way to go! Super!
epicconference.bsky.social
Sara Behnamian (KU) presented a genetic dating method—temporal population structure—for ancient Eurasian genomes spanning the past 10,000 years.
epicconference.bsky.social
Evelyn Todd (KU) used museum and modern specimens to uncover lost diversity and explore the genomic structure and #population dynamics of European #wolves with a special focus on Karelian and Scandinavian wolves! 🐺
epicconference.bsky.social
Kirstine Ravn (KU) presented her great work on how they traced the evolutionary history of the CCR5Δ32 #deletion using both ancient and modern genomes.
epicconference.bsky.social
Mikkel Winther Pedersen @mikkelwp.bsky.social (KU) showed us the potential of ancient #EnvironmentalGenomics - #aeDNA - to monitor past #biodiversity! Looking forward to seeing the developments in this field!
epicconference.bsky.social
Wrapping up #EPIC25 with a deep dive into #AncientGenomics—covering everything from ancient #environmentalDNA authenticity to the evolutionary history of human genes 🧬 , #wolves 🐺, and ancient Eurasian populations.
epicconference.bsky.social
Maria Satti (AU/QGG) presented #MetaMAG Explorer - a modular pipeline for novel metagenome-assembled genome (MAG) discovery and profiling.
epicconference.bsky.social
Shixu He (KU) gave a brilliant talk about the #metagenome of the Greenland population, revealing unique microbial signatures. Seems like ice-cream can improve your health!?
epicconference.bsky.social
Eamon Winship (AU) presented his work on how mobile genetic elements shape variability in marine #sediment #bacteria.
epicconference.bsky.social
‪@kbohmann.bsky.social‬ (KU) showed how you can literally vacuum animal DNA out of the air for biodiversity monitoring.
epicconference.bsky.social
Another #EPIC25 session took us into the world of #eDNA, #Metagenomics, and #biodiversity monitoring—from vacuuming animal #DNA out of air to studying #microbes in the deep sea.
epicconference.bsky.social
And the last speaker for this session was Shannon D'Urso (AU) that shared her work on the genome-wide scan across 43,829 human trios, ruling out moderate single-locus effects in transmission ratio distortion and highlighting meiosis-related genes.
epicconference.bsky.social
We then continued with Emil Jørsboe (SSI) and explored the genetics of permanent tooth eruption.
epicconference.bsky.social
Jian Zeng (University of Queensland) presented evidence of widespread purifying #selection shaping the genetic architecture of human complex traits.
epicconference.bsky.social
Session 5 of #EPIC25 was all about #QuantitativeGenetics were we covered topics going from purifying selection in human traits, the genetics of tooth eruption, and large-scale scans for transmission ratio distortion of variants.
epicconference.bsky.social
Lastly, Chao Zhang (KU) presented his work on #ASTER— a suite of optimization algorithms for accurate #species #tree inference, building on methods like #ASTRAL and #CASTER. Very interesting stuff!
epicconference.bsky.social
Cool talk by Anna Maria Langmüller (AU) on inferring #selection on #transposable #elements - where experimental evolution joins forces with machine learning to uncover how these genomic hitchhikers evolve.
epicconference.bsky.social
Great talk on new hidden Markov model enhancements for detecting archaic #introgression in modern #humans by Asger Hobolth (AU)
epicconference.bsky.social
Anders Charmouh (AU) presented his work on their method to estimate #gene conversion tract length and rate from #PacBio HiFi data - tested with #simulations and applied to #human #sperm #sequencing data.
epicconference.bsky.social
Second and last day of #EPIC25 began with a session on #Methods for statistical and evolutionary #genomics - featuring talks on species tree inference, archaic introgression, gene conversion, and other cutting-edge tools.
