i'm looking for "rideshare services" with this one, not "delivery apps," which is a seperate but parallel issue? i think i fused the two in my mind by mistake because of ubereats. much to consider.

not necessarily a delivery app, but it's worth mentioning i do think uber was cooking with the prospect of having an app where you can call up a sober driver to take you home from anywhere, but i'm 99% sure that already existed in the form of taxis

to me it seems like the issue of delivery apps should center accessibility of food, social/physical infrastructure that is hostile to disabled people, and predatory corporations that seek to extort workers and social issues for profit. not the quality of your $35 mcdonalds order.

like for all the treatler discourse happening, there's a staggering lack of discussion regarding the kinds of conditions delivery drivers endure for a job that doesn't pay them enough, doesn't let them unionize, and, at best, makes them a social pariah.

there's obviously exemptions to this, but the basis of my post is that there seems to be more focus on justifying the use of delivery apps for people who otherwise don't explicitly need it, as opposed to focusing on improving the industry so that its workers can be viewed as people.

i watched a video yesterday that mentioned how delivery drivers are basically treated like an untouchable caste and that is just objectively true. it seems like no one wants to talk to or even look at their delivery drivers, which i'm assuming feels extremely alienating for the driver.
