I am irritated at all of the bullshit surrounding teaching. A small amount.

FOR EXAMPLE: Lesson outcomes/objectives/starters. Don't change it every year or make teachers fit within a certain template. I understand standardising, but holy shit. It was something minor to add to the daily amount of shit to do.

Yes, I know the ex-teacher is complaining about teaching, but honestly, this is something which needs to change within the profession to prevent burnout of teachers. That along with stopping the constant change of minor nonsense which adds more time to teachers day.

That is the story at a lot of different schools/colleges around the UK too. No time to be able to mark them, you HAD to do it outside of work. In my final year of teaching, I then had to teach Health and Social Care. This was fucking mental. The coursework mark load is so big.

I taught criminology and found it interesting that when the controlled assessment came around that marking load became utterly INSANE. The marking load was probably around 15-20 pages per student. There were frequently around 40 students who took it. We got told to get on with it.

It's obvious that there will then be a teacher shortage when I know that this sort of mindset is propagated by line managers and senior leadership teams. Pay should be higher and/or there should be more teachers to offset the load and there should be a way which teachers can take annual leave.

I easily worked 60 hour weeks if not longer. I left the house before 7am and got home easily between 6-6:30 every night. If I wanted to do anything outside of work, I had to plan it the night before doing anything. I.e go to play magic and socialising.
