Given that Blueprints were a HUGE reason for choosing Unreal over Unity (I started in the '00s with PopCap's GameMaker), this is BIG big.

I have a weird take on this: I started GameDev with GameMaker 7, and I liked the codeless programming through visual nodes. It's why I like Unreal. It reminds me of making indie games on PopCap as a teen.

It is, honestly. A lot of it started with that Threat Interactive dude spreading misinformation. Then it became popular. And don't get me wrong, there's plenty of substance behind it; but it's almost all on the dev side and the fact that they were using a UE4 workflow, hard casting everywhere, and

I'm not really familiar with current GameMaker Studio 2, but I made several fun Star Wars, Sonic, & Naruto fan games back on GameMaker 7 in the PopCap days. This was in the late 2000s, but it was super simple with the visual nodes based programming. That whole vibe is why I chose UE over Unity.

It's definitely different levels 😅 But same topic! I develop in Unreal, so I've been keeping an eye on it. My hope was to learn UE because I figured it was inevitable that they'd move to it, and then I could hopefully work on Halo.
